'Hounds Hoops Looks to Bounce Back Against Texas Wesleyan

The Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball team continues non-conference action during the holiday season with a matchup with Texas Wesleyan on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Greyhound Arena. The 'Hounds look to bounce back after dropping the last five contests, moving their overall record to 4-8 on the season.

Wyms Eyes 500 Points
Senior guard Chris Wyms needs 62 points to score 500 in his career at Eastern. The Carson, Calif., native scored 341 in his 2014-15 campaign before being sidelined for much of the 2015-16 season, scoring only 34 points. This year, Wyms is averaging 6.2 points/game and has 11 steals on the defensive end.

Lewis Putting in the Time
Junior forward Chris Lewis leads the team with nearly 32 minutes/game as well as offensive and defensive rebounds, totaling 89 boards.  The big man's 3.73 offensive rebounds/game ranks 25th in the NCAA and second in the Lone Star Conference. Overall the Philadelphia, Pa., native is averaging 8.0 PPG and 8.1 RPG during the 2016-17 season.

Neal Lighting It Up
Senior guard CoRnell Neal has turned in nine-straight games of scoring 10+ points, four-straight with 15+ and four games with at least 20 points. Against Lubbock Christian, the Midwest City, Okla., native scored 17 and dished out six assists to just one turnover, marking the second-straight game Neal had a positive assist/turnover ratio.

Spark Off the Bench
Seniors Chris Wyms and Javaan Mumtaz have provided a spark to the 'Hounds' offense off the bench, with both averaging 5.7 PPG in 2016. Eastern's bench is scoring just over 24 points/game off the bench, with both guards providing nearly half of those points. 

'Quise Shooting the Lights Out
After coming off the bench for the last four games, Marquise Harris was inserted back into the starting lineup against Lubbock Christian. The junior guard scored 17 against the Chaps, going 6-of-9 from the field and 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. The Watts, Calif., native has scored in double-figures in all 10 games he has played in this season, averaging 16.2 points/game this season.

Forgot About Dre
Andre Hughes has come up big for the 'Hounds time and again this season, scoring at an 8.3 points/game clip and pulling down 6.3 boards/game. The Killeen, Texas, native scored in double-figures in three-straight games, including a season-high 17 against Huston Tillotson.
