PORTALES, N.M. — On Wednesday afternoon, the Lone Star Conference office published its weekly indoor track and field release. Among the four deserving weekly award winners was
Klaudia Szych, from Eastern New Mexico University. Szych was chosen as the LSC Women's Track Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance at last weekend's University of New Mexico Invitational.
The last time an ENMU indoor track & field athlete claimed weekly honors came late last January, when Jenae Wolfram was named Field Athlete of the Week. Szych is the first female athlete from Eastern to earn weekly honors from the LSC for indoor track.
Szych registered a fourth-place finish in the women's 800-meter run at the New Mexico Classic and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships, with a time of 2:11.28. Her time was .13 better than fifth-place finish Alexandria Sokolova from NCAA Division I Lamar College, and stands as the eighth-best time in Division II.
