PORTALES, N.M. — Last week, the Eastern New Mexico University softball team snapped a 12-game skid and
posted a 6-3 win at Oklahoma Christian. Most notable about the extra-inning victory was that the Eagles had been defeated only one previous time at home, this season. This weekend, Eastern will visit second-ranked West Texas A&M, before a non-conference doubleheader at Oklahoma Panhandle State, on Tuesday.
Eastern currently is tied for the Lone Star Conference lead (with WT) with 11 triples, and is fourth in scoring. Defensively, the Hounds are third with a .961 fielding percentage, behind West Texas A&M and Angelo State.
Kyra Sirag is eighth in the conference in hits and ninth batting average.
Audrey Velasquez ranks fourth in the league in total hits, with 57.
Erikka Burke is tied for fifth with nine double plays turned
Over the first 24 games of the season, Sirag has led Eastern with a .419 batting average. She also has a .613 slugging percentage, 26 runs scored, three stolen bases, and a .988 fielding percentage. Velasquez and
Susannah Chandler are right behind at .375 and .341, respectively. Velasquez leads ENMU with 32 runs scored and is tied (
Natasha Kissell) for the team lead with four stolen bases,

9-8 decision against New Mexico Highlands on February 18, 2015. Over the four games last week, Erikka Burk and
Kiana Zerr posted 2.21 and 2.52 earned run averages, respectively. Zerr scattered nine hits to earn the victory over Oklahoma Christian. Marleyna Piñon paced the Hounds with a .500 batting average.
West Texas A&M enters the weekend with a record of 40-2 and leads the LSC with a record of 22-2. WT has won four straight games since a 9-6 setback against Cameron and is 22-1 at home, this season.
Oklahoma Panhandle will host Lubbock Christian in a three-game Heartland Conference series, prior to facing the Greyhounds on Tuesday. The Aggies earned a 6-3 road win over Rogers State and have won three of their last five games. OPSU is 16-22 overall and 5-3 at home. Entering the weekend, the Aggies are seventh in the Heartland.

ENMU's last win in the series was a 5-0 decision on April 18, 2010, behind Kimberly Crouse's five-hitter. Alex Mayo-Otis, Amana Lale, and Melissa Williams each had two hits. WT has won the last 21 games between the teams.

Oklahoma Panhandle won the initial meeting between the teams on Friday, March 7, 1997, by a 12-3 score. That season was ENMU's first year of competition in softball. Eastern's high point in the series came from the
2005-
2010 seasons, which saw ENMU claim 19 consecutive meetings.
