LAS VEGAS, NM —Facing a 9-3 deficit in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader, the Eastern New Mexico University softball team (13-10) scored four runs and brought the game-tying run to the plate. New Mexico Highlands (4-9) held on for a 9-7 win and earned a 9-1 victory in the nightcap.
In The Series
- The setback snapped ENMU's six-game win streak in the series
- The Hounds still hold a 28-26 edge in the overall series
- NMHU is 14-9 against Eastern at home

Game 1
- The Hounds struck first in the opener, when Parker Smith sprinted home on a passed ball in the first inning
- The Cowgirls answered with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame and capitalized on a pair of errors to take a 2-1 lead
- Kianna Zerr and Elysa Rodriguez both scored in the top of the second to give ENMU a 3-2 edge after thee Hounds capitalized on three NMHU errors
- New Mexico Highlands scored seven unanswered runs to seize a 9-3 lead headed into the top of the seventh inning
- Eastern sent nine batters to the plate in the seventh and started their scoring on a two-run, pinch-hit double from Samantha Brockman
- Two batters later, Jennifer McElroy drove a two-out RBI double to left centerfield
- McElroy scored to pull Eastern within two runs on a single from Kamalani Peneku
- Isabella Scarale went 6.2 innings to pick up the win for NMHU
