Box Score Denver, Colo. – Eastern New Mexico fought hard against Regis University but were unable to pull out a win falling 84-70.
The Hounds saw their best start this season as they took a 39-35 lead into halftime shooting 78.3 percent from the free throw line. ENMU continued their lead throughout the second half of play down to the last five minutes where Regis University took control of the game after getting four Hounds into foul trouble.
Starting off the game with back to back baskets the Hounds were able to sneak away after
Marvin Mapaga became hot shooting seven points in the first nine minutes of play. The Hounds continued making plays stretching a 30-23 lead with four minutes left in the first half.
Marvin Mapaga came out of the locker room with a dunk to give the Hounds momentum to continue their lead. Keeping within two the Hounds started slowing down as Regis got hot beyond the arc with five minutes to play. The Hounds were only able to score six points to Regis' 18 in the final five minutes of the contest.
Garrick Sherrod hit a career high 17 points in 21 minutes of play, his best game of the season. Sherrod shot a percent 100 from the free throw line making all of his nine charity shots.
Marvin Mapaga went 4-8 from the field adding to his game total nine points.
Yosnier Cobas saw action as he led the Hounds in rebounding recording seven for the contest and shooting a 66.7 from the free throw line.
The Hounds head back to Portales for their first home game of the season against Wayland Baptist University on December 7
th at 7:00 p.m.
