ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team held its own against Division I competition as it wrapped-up its exhibition schedule against the University of New Mexico, falling 92-71 Wednesday night.
The Hounds got off to a hot start and shot 50 percent from beyond the arch, connecting on six of their 12 long-range attempts in the first half. Senior guard
Isaiah Murphy led the offensive flurry as he connected on his first three field goal attempts, all from three-point range, as Eastern took an 11-10 advantage into the first media break.
Senior forward
Darius Sawyer made the most of his minutes coming off the bench as he led the Hounds with 11 points on a four-for-seven shooting night. The Inverness, Fla. native also hauled in four rebounds, dished out an assist and recorded a steal.
Junior point guard
Ibn Zaid filled up the stat sheet as he finished tied for the team lead with five rebounds to go along with his 10 points and three assists. Also contributing to the rebounding effort was junior
Devin Pullum and senior
Deng Kuany who corralled five rebounds apiece.

Brandon Meadows showed an aptitude to create offensive opportunities and find open teammates in space as he finished with a team-high five assists. Junior forward
Yosnier Cobas got after it defensively as he tallied a pair of steals and a blocked shot.
With their exhibition slate complete, the Hounds will travel to Durango, Colo. this weekend to begin the regular season as they compete in the LSC/RMAC Conference Challenge. The Green and Silver will face New Mexico Highlands on Sunday in their season opener before taking on tournament host Fort Lewis on Sunday.
