Greyhound Men Fall To Ranked St. Edwards

Box Score Austin, Texas – Eastern New Mexico men's basketball were unable to continue their winning momentum as they faced nationally ranked St. Edward's Hilltoppers, falling 85-66.

Coming off their first win of the season, the Hounds were matched with the impressive scoring capabilities of the St. Edwards Hilltoppers. Despite out-rebounding the Hilltoppers 43-36, the Hounds were unable to control their turnovers recording 23 for the contest. The Hounds outshot the Hilltoppers from beyond the arc but were unable to connect from the free-throw line going 9-for-15 finishing with a 60.0 percent compared the Hilltoppers 88.9%

Eastern New Mexico saw their only lead in the first minute of play as Yosnier Cobas put up the first two points on the board but was answered by a St. Edwards three. The Hilltoppers went on a 12-6 scoring run in the first five minutes of play only to see the Hounds come within one at the eight-minute mark. Staying close to St. Edwards the Hounds scored eleven points in seven minutes but fell silent in the last two minutes letting the Hilltoppers walk into halftime ahead 43-34.

Stepping back onto the court from the halftime break, the Hounds matched a nine-point scoring run by the Hilltoppers but were unable to continue to connect from the field. Back to back turnovers gave St. Edwards multiple chances at adding points to the board. The Hounds outshot the Hilltoppers from the field connecting on 12-for-27 in the paint but recorded fifteen turnovers in the second half alone.

Devin Pullum finished the game with 15 points, three steals and four assists. Isaiah Murphy was right behind recording eleven points.

Deng Kuany led the Hounds from the glass recording ten rebounds, a new career high. Yosnier Cobas hit a career high ten points while recording four rebounds and three blocked shots for the contest.

Eastern New Mexico returns home for a pair of LSC conference matchups before the winter break. The Hounds take on UAFS on Thursday, Dec. 19^th at 7:30 pm and Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, Dec. 21^st at 4:00 pm.
