Bagwell, Covington Earn LSC Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Honors

RICHARDSON, Texas – Senior multi-events competitor Ezra Bagwell earned the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Men's Academic Athlete of the Year Award and senior sprinter Kiana Covington was named to the Women's All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference office on Friday.

A native of Clayton, N.M., Bagwell was named to the All-Academic Team for the third consecutive year. Majoring in Electronic Engineering, Bagwell receives the award after accumulating a perfect 4.0 GPA while competing in the 60-meter hurdles, the long jump, and the 4x400-meter relay during the Hounds' 2019 indoor season.

Bagwell was a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that set the third-fastest mark in program history at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational last week after the four-man team that included Travonne Armstead, Brandon Chavez, and Andrew Villegas combined for a 3:19:59. Bagwell also set the second-best 60-meter hurdles mark at the same meet, crossing the finish line in 8.97.

The multi-events competitor is no stranger to the ENMU record books as he is currently the Greyhounds indoor record holder in the pole vault (4.39-meters) and the heptathlon (4509).

Bagwell is scheduled to compete in the heptathlon and the pole vault events at the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Lubbock, Texas.

An anthropology major from El Paso, Texas, Covington was named to the women's indoor All-Academic Team for the first time in her career after accumulating a 3.8 GPA.

Covington this season has competed in the 200-meter, 400-meter, and 4x400-meter relay during the indoor season. In last week's Don Kirby Elite, Covington was the member of the 4x400-meter relay team with Danee Bustos, Kandice Miles, and Maijah Mathis that shattered the program record after totaling a 3:56.15, breaking the previous record by more than three seconds.

In the ENMU indoor record books, Covington currently holds the fourth-fastest times in the 400-meter (59.25) and 600-meter (1:42.70).

At this weekend's LSC Championships, Covington is scheduled to compete in the 200-meter, 400-meter, and the 4x400-meter relay events.
