PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico track and field team is set to compete at West Texas A&M for the second time in three weeks as the Hounds will be participating in the WTAMU Invitational on Saturday, April 20.
Field events for the one-day meet will begin at 1 p.m. while the track events are slated for a 4 p.m. start.
The Hounds will be looking for another strong showing in Canyon as the Hounds broke five program records and set three NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the WTAMU Classic & Multi two weeks prior.
Last week, the Greyhounds competed at the Ross Black Invitational at New Mexico Junior College and won two events. Mercy Rotich won the women's 5000-meter event with a time of 18:06.96 for her third event win of the outdoor season. Rotich won the 5000-meter race at the WTAMU Classic & Multi the week prior with a time of 18:05.67 and also won the 1500-meter event at the Greyhound Open with a mark of 5:00.30.
On the men's side, Louis Bolander was victorious in the 3000-meter Steeplechase after turning in a career best time of 10:15.12.
A pair of Greyhounds also climbed up the ENMU record books last week. In the men's 400-meter, Ivar Moinat turned in the third-best time in ENMU history after crossing the finish line in 48.41. Teagan Mosely also climbed up the ranks in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.28 for the third-best mark in the history of the program.
Entering Saturday's meet, three Greyhounds will be looking to improve upon their chances of competing in the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships. Maijah Mathis currently holds one of the three NCAA provisional qualifying marks on the team with an 11.93 (after conversion), the 29th best time in Division II in the 100-meter dash. In the 200-meter, Kandice Miles possesses the sixth-best time in Division II with a 24.02. On the men's side, Moinat, an indoor All-American in the 800-meter, has been carrying that momentum into the outdoor season as he currently possesses the sixth-best mark in Division II with a 1:50.66.
