PORTALES, NM – The Eastern New Mexico track and field team will head to Albuquerque, NM to compete in the MLK Indoor Collegiate Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Hounds will have 27 athletes competing in 13 events over the course of the two-day meet.
LAST WEEK
The Hounds started off their indoor season at the Texas Tech Corky Classic where they were matched up against Division I and Division II schools. Senior
Mercy Rotich placed fourth in the mile with a time of 5:13.06 (converted to 5:09.42 due to elevation), which is the fastest time recorded by a Lone Star Conference competitor in that event this season. Junior
Aminata Kenyawani also proved once again that the Greyhounds will showcase a deep pool of distance runners this season and ranks sixth in the Lone Star Conference with a mile time of 5:26.09. Both Rotich and Kenyawani will run the mile and the 3000 meter race this weekend in Albuquerque, N.M..
On the men's side, senior
Ivar Moinat finished in second place in the 800 meter race with a time of 1:54.93 (converted to 1:54.60 due to elevation) and finished the weekend with the second best 800 meter time in the Lone Star Conference. Moinat also enters this weekend ranked in the top ten of the Lone Star Conference in the 400 meter after posting a time of 50.12. Moinat is scheduled to run the 600 meter and 800 meter race this weekend.
THIS WEEKEND
Five throwers are set to compete at the MLK Indoor Collegiate Invitational this weekend including senior
Bryanna Williams, who ranks in the top 10 of the Lone Star Conference with a throw of 13.03 meters. Williams, along with freshman
Tamia Smith, will lead a quality group of throwers into Friday afternoon's events looking to get the Hounds off to a quality start.
Sophomore's
Jessica Campbell and
Ryan Cox will also provide the Hounds with solid opportunities to score points as they will compete in multiple events this weekend including the High Jump, Shot Put, and 60m Hurdles. Freshman
Kaylee Caldwell will serve as the third Hound to compete in multiple events after running a 10.40 in the 60 meter hurdles and jumping 4.76 meters in the long jump last weekend, a personal best for the freshman.
The Greyhounds will return to Albuquerque next weekend (Feb. 1, 2020) for their third indoor meet at the University of New Mexico. The Hounds will round out their indoor schedule back at Texas Tech for the Texas Tech Shootout on Feb. 14-15.
