PORTALES, NM – The Eastern New Mexico track and field team are headed back to Albuquerque, NM for their third indoor meet.
LAST WEEK
Mercy Rotich continues to hold the number one spot among the Lone Star Conference in the mile and is now number one in the 3000-meter run after her work last weekend at the MLK Collegiate Indoor Invitational. Rotich marked a new personal best in both races; 5:12.29 (converted to 5:05.49 due to elevation) in the mile and 10:19.14 (converted to 10:03.89 due to elevation) in the 3000-meter. Rotich is only scheduled to run the mile this weekend.
After his performance last weekend,
Ivar Moinat bumped up to the number one spot in the Lone Star Conference in the 800-meter run. Moinat placed second last weekend, knocking of 1.05 second from the first indoor meet of the season to cross the finish line at 1:53.55 (converted to 1:52.92 due to elevation). The senior is scheduled to run the 400-meter and 600-meter this weekend.
Jessie Madrid placed fourth in the 3000-meter with a time of 8:41.59 and is now ranked third in the Lone Star Conference. Madrid will be participating in the mile and 3000-meter run.
Sophomore duo
Jessica Campbell and
Ryan Cox are the Hounds multiple event athletes this weekend. Campbell is on the books to compete in four events and will look to improve her high jump after an impressive personal best height of 1.60m (5'3") last weekend. Cox took sixth last weekend for his high jump of 1.90m (6' 2.75") and set a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles (8.80) and shot put (9.44m, 30' 11.73"). This weekend Cox will look to add some height to the high jump as he is currently tied at tenth in the Lone Star Conference.
LOOKING FORWARD
The Greyhounds will finish out the indoor competition at the Texas Tech Shootout on Feb. 14th and 15th. The Lone Sar Conference Indoor Championships are held the following week in Lubbock Texas.
