Greyhounds Impress On The Track At University Of New Mexico Team Open

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Eastern New Mexico track and field traveled back to the University of New Mexico where the Hounds impressed on the track while field competitors struggled up against the Division I competition. 

The Greyhounds impressed on the track while field competitors struggled up against the Division I competition. The University of New Mexico Team Open consisted of teams from both Division I and Division II schools including; University of New Mexico, TCU, Adams State, Lubbock Christian, West Texas A&M, Arizona State, Washington State, and UCLA.
 
Racing against ten competitors, Ivar Moinat took first in the men's 600-meter run. Moinat finished with a time of 1:20.31, a personal best for the senior. Moinat also ran in the 400-meter placing 15th out of 31 runners with a time of 48.49. Kaylee Caldwell's time of 9.82 in the 60-meter hurdles marked a new school record as the freshman is ranked 17th in the Lone Star Conference. 
 
Jessie Madrid took eighth in the men's mile finishing with a time of 4:28.84, his best mile time this year. In the woman's mile, senior Mercy Rotich took 10th place out of 36 runners crossing the line at 5:06.77. Rotich still holds the top spot in the Lone Star Conference with a mile time of 5:05.49 from last weekend's MLK Indoor meet. 
 
Ryan Cox was unable to take a top spot in the shot put however the sophomore beat a former personal best adding 0.58m with a throw of 10.02. Tamia Smith moved up to the seventh spot in the Lone Star Conference after a throw of 12.46. Smith is now second in school history.
 
In the woman's 600-meter run, Mason Swanson crossed the finish line with a time of 1:37.01 taking third out of 12 runners. Evaline Cheptoo and Kayla Sisneros both placed in the women's 3000-meter run. Cheptoo took 4th out of the 17 runners with a time of 10:52.50, a personal best for the Hound who is sitting at 10th place in the Lone Star Conference for her previous time of 10:54.01.
 
The Greyhounds will have next week off as they prepare for the final indoor meet of the season, the Texas Tech Shootout, on February 14-15. The Lone Star Conference Indoor meet in scheduled for February 21 and 22 which will also be held in Lubbock Texas.
