Box Score 2 LUBBOCK, Texas – Eastern New Mexico softball went 1-1 in its first day competing in the Lubbock Tournament.
 
The Hounds first took on the University of Nebraska-Kearny Loopers for an 11 am. game.
 
Leading-off for the Hounds, senior 
Elysa Rodriguez singled to left field before advancing to third following a base knock from junior 
Andrea Cline and a walk from junior 
Jennifer McElroy. With no outs and the bases loaded, freshman 
Mackenzie Shaw flied out to left field sending Rodriguez home for the first run of the game.
 
The Hounds recorded back-to-back singles to start off the second with a sacrifice bunt from junior 
Parker Smith advancing both runners into scoring position. Sophomore Illiana Mendoza hit straight out to center field scoring freshman 
Jokaira Paredes. An RBI from Cline sent Brockman across home plate, giving the Hounds a 3-1 lead heading into the third.
 
In the top of the fifth the Loopers took a 5-4 lead thanks to a three-run inning. UNK found every nook and cranny they could, plating three more runs in the sixth frame as the Hounds were unable to score in the six and seventh inning falling to UNK 8-4.
 
In their next contest of the day, the Hounds matched up with CSU-Pueblo where they took a 10-7 win against the Thunderwolves.
 
Despite an early strike out in the first, Paredes crossed home plate as the Greyhounds once again got on the scoreboard first. The Eastern offense continued as Rodriguez, Cline and freshman 
Tianna Boone all scored in the second inning
 
The Green and Silver struggled at the plate through the fifth inning while the Thunderwolves took advantage recording three runs for a 6-4 lead heading into the sixth frame. Cline dug into the box with 
Elysa Rodriguez on first and hit a home run for a two-run shot. Tied 7-7, both teams were unable to compete with the pitcher sending the game into the eighth inning. The Hounds wasted no time in extra innings and scored three runs to take the 10-7 victory.
 
The Hounds brought in four pitchers throughout both games while freshman 
Brook Leger once again impressed in the circle. Leger struck out five batters in her four innings pitched for the first game of the day. Leger took the first part of the second game off and came back onto the field in the bottom of the sixth. Leger struck out six batters assisting the Hounds in its second win of the season.
