PORTALES, NM - The Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team returns to Greyhound Arena for the first time since the end of the 2019-20 season. The Hounds will host Northern New Mexico College at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 19 before welcoming Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Monday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m.Â
LAST TIME OUT
• The Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team went 0-2 at the RMAC/LSC Challenge last weekend held at The Pit. The Hounds fell 96-92 to Fort Lewis College before being handed a 97-87 loss by New Mexico Highlands University.
• Against Fort Lewis, the Greyhounds saw five student-athletes score double digits.
James Jordan led the Hounds with 18 points (8-14 FG, 0-3 3PT, 2-3 FT).
Adam Hess added 13 points, while
JaQuan Morris was close behind with 12.
Jose Serrano and
Kentrell Pullian added 11 and 10 points, respectively. On the boards,
Yosnier Cobas pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Pullian added seven rebounds.
• In the game against NMHU, Serrano paced the ENMU offense with 24 points (9-12 FG, 5-7 3PT, 1-2 FT).
Adam Hess was close behind with 20 points, while Pullian rounded out the double digit scoring with 15 points. Defensively,
James Jordan pulled down a team-high seven boards. Serrano,
JaQuan Morris, and
Yosnier Cobas were close behind with five rebounds each.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
• The Northern New Mexico Eagles enter Friday's contest with an overall record of 2-4. NNMC is coming off a 83-69 loss to New Mexico Highlands University on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
• The Oklahoma Panhandle Aggies have a 2-2 overall record (as of 11/17). Before they face the Greyhounds, they will have contests against #21 Mid-America Christian University (11/18) and Southwestern Christian University (11/20). On Tuesday, Nov. 9, Oklahoma Panhandle defeated Barclay College, 92-82. Justin Pile led the team with 21 points, while Rayquan Elliott was close behind with 20. Defensively, Pile paced the team with 13 rebounds. Elliott and DK Sumo each had four steals.
LAST SEASON
• The Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team returns to the court after having to sit out the 2020-21 season due to New Mexico COVID-19 restrictions.
• ENMU finished the 2019-20 season with an overall record of 8-19 and a 8-14 mark in Lone Star Conference play.
• The Hounds return five student-athletes who saw action in 2019-20. Those five are
Jose Serrano,
Garrick Sherrod,
Marvin Mapaga,
Yosnier Cobas, and
Isaac Maldonado. The rest of the 2021-22 squad is a mixture of players who came to Eastern in either 2020-21 or are new this year and have yet to make their official debut.
• In 2019-20, the Greyhounds averaged 74 points per game, 35.4 rebounds per game, 11.3 assists per game, 6.9 steals per game, and 3.0 blocks per game.
• Of the returners for Eastern,
Jose Serrano averaged 10.6 points per game and played 19.1 minutes per game. Defensively,
Yosnier Cobas led the 2019-20 team in rebounds with 5.1 per game.
