PORTALES, NM - The Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team heads to Silver City, NM on Thursday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. to face in-state rival, Western New Mexico University.
LAST TIME OUT
• The Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team enters the weekend with a 4-4 overall record. Last week the Hounds fell, 81-63, to #5 West Texas A&M University before picking up a 77-70 win over the University of the Southwest.
• Against WT,
James Jordan paced the Eastern offense with 11 points.
Kentrell Pullian,
JaQuan Morris, and
Jose Serrano each added nine points. On defense, Jordan and
Jared Perry both pulled down five rebounds. Pullian had a team-high two steals throughout the contest. Perry and
Cornell Greenwood each recorded two blocks. The Hounds finished the game shooting 38.2 percent from the floor, 10.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 67.9 percent from the free throw line, compared to WT's 39.7 percent on the floor, 35.7 percent from three-point range, and 78.1 percent at the line.
• In the game against the University of the Southwest, Morris led the Hound offense with 13 points, while
Marvin Mapaga was close behind with 12 points. Serrano and
Sebastian Jimenez both added 10 points. Defensively,
Yosnier Cobas pulled down eight rebounds.
Adam Hess recorded seven rebounds. Morris also led the team in steals with three. Serrano finished the contest with two blocks.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
• The Western New Mexico University Mustangs enter the week with a 5-2 overall record.
• WNMU fell, 73-70, to #5 West Texas A&M on Saturday, Dec. 4. Tony Avalos led the team with 17 points, while Josh Johnson added 14 points. Amarion Cash paced the team in rebounds with 11.
• Overall this season, Avalos leads the way with 17.0 points per game. Jordan Doss is close behind, averaging 16.4 points per game. On the glass, Olamide Pedersen paces the squad with 5.9 rebounds per game. Doss adds 5.3 rebounds per game, while Malik Johnson pulls down 5.0 per game.
