CANYON, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico track and field program kicked off the 2021 outdoor season on Friday at the Spring Break Classic hosted by West Texas A&M. The Hounds had a strong showing in their first meet in over a year.
Jessica Campbell topped the high jump event with a 5-5.0Â (1.65-meter) performance. She also finished second in the javelin with a throw of 119-1.5 (36.31 meters) and ninth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.19). Her high jump and 100m hurdles performances were program records.Â
In the shot put,
Tamia Smith placed second with a personal-best and program record 41-7.75 (12.69-meter) throw. In the discus, Smith finished sixth (108-0, 32.93m).
The women's team saw six individual top-10 performances on the track.
Neri Getraide finished second in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18.41.93.
Torisha LaForce ran a 1:09.80 in the 400-meter hurdles which was good for third place.
In the 800-meter run,
Malethabo Seema finished fourth with a time of 2:20.66, while
Lethabo Seema placed 12
th (2:28.47).
Jaliyah Denny had strong performances in the 100 (13
th, 12.38) and 200 (6
th, 25.75) meter dashes.
Marta Pascoa and
Mercy Rotich finished 10
th and 11
th in the 1500-meter run with times of 5:08.46 and 5:10.97, respectively.
The 4x400 meter relay team of LaForce, M. Seema, L. Seema, and
Savannah Romero took fifth place with a time of 4:11.37.
On the men's side,
Dan Hurren ran a 1:57.73 in the 800-meter, which was good for eighth place.
Jon Fuentes finished 12
th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:16.99.
The Greyhounds are back in action on Friday, March 26 at The Open held at Lubbock Christian.
