Softball Heads To Texas Woman's And Midwestern State

PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico softball team heads to Texas Woman's and Midwestern State for conference doubleheaders this weekend. The Hounds will take on the Pioneers on Saturday, April 17 at 11 a.m. and the Mustangs on Sunday starting at 11 a.m. 
 

LAST TIME OUT

The Greyhounds enter the weekend with an overall record of 0-17 and Lone Star Conference record of 0-16. Last weekend, the Hounds traveled to Oklahoma Christian and Cameron for conference doubleheaders. The Eagles handed Eastern two losses by scores of 12-0 and 8-1, while the Aggies defeated Eastern 17-1 and 10-0.
 

NEW LEADER AT THE HELM

Eastern has new leadership as Dusté Grawrock was named the interim head coach after the resignation of former head coach Kira Zeiter.

Grawrock is no stranger to the game as she was the head coach at Southern Virginia from 2010-2014 and was a two-year softball student-athlete at Southern Virginia as well.
 

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

Texas Woman's University
The Pioneers enter the weekend with an overall record of 4-21 and LSC mark of 3-17. Last Sunday, Texas Woman's fell 11-2 and 5-4 at Angelo State.

Paige Tamayo paces the team in batting average (.377) and home runs (4). Tara Solomon has a team-high 22 hits and three triples. Taylor Goulet has contributed 17 hits, eight doubles, and 11 RBI.

In the circle, Tatum Quaker has a team-low ERA of 3.22 to go with 55 strikeouts and a 2-6 record. Jalee McDonald has a 2-4 record, 4.42 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 50.2 innings.

Midwestern State University
The Mustangs enter the weekend with an overall record of 12-22 and a 5-15 mark in LSC play. Midwestern State will face No. 12 West Texas A&M before meeting the Hounds on Sunday. Last weekend, the Mustangs fell twice to Lubbock Christian by scores of 8-0 and 11-4.

Offensively, Midwestern is led by Ashley Turner with a .392 batting average, 38 hits, and 26 runs. Jacey Henry paces the team in both home runs (6) and RBI (19).

In the circle, Henry leads the way in ERA with a 4.02 and wins with a 5-5 record. Kaitlyn Turner has a 4.72 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 83.0 innings.
