Softball Travels To No. 10 West Texas A&M For Saturday Doubleheader

PORTALES, N.M. - The Eastern New Mexico softball team heads to No. 10 nationally-ranked West Texas A&M on Saturday for a Lone Star Conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. 
 

LAST TIME OUT

The Greyhounds enter the weekend with an overall record of 4-21 and Lone Star Conference record of 4-20. Last weekend the Hounds went 3-1 overall. They collected two wins over Western New Mexico on April 23. On April 25, Eastern hosted UT Permian Basin and won the first game 4-3 in extra innings before dropping the second game, 13-3, in six innings. 

Aylene Lucero had a great weekend for the Greyhounds. She appeared in three games and went 8-for-11 at the plate (.727 batting average) with five runs, two doubles, one home run, and five RBI. In the loss to UTPB on Sunday, Tianna Boone drove in all of Eastern's runs on a home run. 

In the circle, Brook Leger went 2-1 while Maite Bustillos had one win. 
 

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS

Eastern is led offensively by Azalea Martinez with a .317 batting average, 19 hits, seven runs, six doubles, three home runs, and six RBI. Lucero has a .315 batting average to go with 17 hits, three doubles, one home run, and seven RBI. 

In the circle, Leger leads the team in ERA (9.17), wins (3-7), strikeouts (32), and innings pitched (36.1). Bustillos has also put in some quality time with a 12.00 ERA, 10 strikeouts, and a 1-2 record in 30.0 innings of work.

West Texas A&M
The No. 10 nationally-ranked Lady Buffs enter the weekend with an overall record of 30-10 and LSC mark of 18-10. Last weekend, WT went 4-0 with doubleheader wins over UTPB (9-1, 9-1) and WNMU (13-3, 8-0). 

Shanna McBroom leads the way offensively, with a .471 batting average, 56 runs, 66 hits, 10 doubles, seven triples, six home runs, and 31 RBI. Ruby Salzman has a team-high 14 doubles, 10 home runs, and 47 RBI. Alyx Cordell has 35 hits, 11 doubles, and 28 RBI. Also contributing offensively is Gabriella Valforte with a .337 batting average, 34 hits, six doubles, 10 home runs, and 34 RBI. 

In the circle, Sydney Greeson has a team-low ERA of 1.91 in 7.1 innings. Kyra Lair has seen the most time with 114.2 innings of work. She has a 3.24 ERA and 130 strikeouts with a 16-5 record. Emilee Wilson has a 3.07 ERA with a 10-5 record and 62 strikeouts in 98.0 innings.
