PORTALES, N.M. – After missing out on the 2021 indoor season, Eastern New Mexico track & field is ready for the start of the 2022 indoor season beginning at the Texas Tech Corky Classic, hosted by Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. The meets will take place across Friday, Jan. 14 until Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Sports Performance Center on the campus of Texas Tech.
The Greyhounds return several student-athletes who performed well in the 2021 outdoor season including
Malethabo Seema and
Tamia Smith.
At the 2021 Outdoor Lone Star Conference Championships, M.Seema took home gold in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:19.02. She was the first Greyhound to win a gold medal in the 800-meter at the outdoor championships since 2016. M. Seema also turned in a 10th place finish in the 1500-meter run last spring with a time of 5:06:55. Smith placed in fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.27m and was the standout for the ENMU field events.
The men's team bring back
Dan Hurren and
Kelvin Kipkemboi, who both competed at the LSC Outdoor Championships in 2021 with Hurren taking part in the 800-meter run, and Kipkemboi running in the 1500-meter run.
