PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Track & Field return to the track this weekend in Lubbock, Texas for the Masked Rider Open beginning on Friday, Apr. 1, and concluding on Saturday, Apr. 2. The meet will take place at the Fuller Track & Field, on the campus of Texas Tech University.
The Greyhounds have four more tune ups after this weekend, before heading to Kingsville, Texas for the 2022 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship, hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville, on May 5

th.
In its last meet, the WT Spring Break Classic,
Tamia Smith excelled in the throws. Smith posted a top ten finish in the hammer throw [38.92 m (127' 8"), 8
th}, the discus throw [36.81 m (120' 9"), 3
rd], and the shot put [13.15 m (43' 1.75"), 2
nd]. Smith's attempt in the shot put is the second longest throw in program history.
In the women's 1500, five Greyhounds broke into the top 10 with three members in the top five.
Lethabo Seema took home second place with a time of 4:51.85, with
Dorcas Kosgei and
Aminata Kenyawani placed just behind in 3
rd place (4:54.70) and 4
th place (4:54.98), respectively.
Malethabo Seema and
Marta Pascoa also had great finishes with times of 4:57.89 for M.Seema finishing in sixth place and Pascoa clocking 4:58.40 to finish in seventh place.
Dan Hurren had an impressive run in the 800-meters, placing in second with a time of 1:57.42.
Devis Cheruiyot followed in third place with a time of 1:59.07.
Kelvin Kipkemboi set a personal best in the 1500-meter run, clocking 4:09.00 to finish in fourth place.
Japhet Toroitich also competed in the 1500, taking sixth place with a time of 4:14.62.
