CANYON, TEXAS – Eastern New Mexico track & field took part in the Jo Meaker Classic and Multi at West Texas A&M University this past weekend. A handful of individuals marked a personal best, along with two top-five marks in program history.
Day one of events started with
Marta Pascoa posting a personal best in the 3000-meter steeplechase, completing the course in 11:46.12 to take 2
nd place. In their first time with the event this season, Pascoa's time stands as the 5
th fastest time this season among Lone Star Conference (LSC) competitors, and broke into the top-five marks in program history.

Dorcas Kosgei also broke a personal best over the weekend, with a time of 18:08.81 to finish in 2
nd place in the 5000 meters. Meanwhile,
Aminata Kenyawani ran their first 10,000 meters of the season and crossed the line in 2
nd place with a time of 39.34.28, recording a top-five time in the LSC this season.

Kelvin Kipkemboi entered program record books this weekend after a great performance in the 10,000 meters. In his first time completing the event, Kipkemboi took home 2
nd place with a time of 31:33.83 and landed fourth in the program records. The time is also in the top-five for the event this season in the LSC.

In the field events,
Arianna Hayde placed 7
th in the Javelin for their first attempt of the season. Hayde recorded a throw of 32.00 meters (104' 11.75").
Tamia Smith set a season best in the discus throw with a toss of 37.79 meters (123' 11.75"), taking 6
th place.

In the second day of events,
Malethabo Seema took home 5
th place in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 2:14.04, the third fastest time in the LSC this season.
Lethabo Seema crossed the line in 3
rd place for the 1500 meters with a time of 4:55.60. Smith continued their success in day two of competition, setting a personal best in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 42.31 meters (138' 9.75") taking 12
th place (top-10 mark in LSC this season). Smith then finished in 8
th for the Shot Put with (40' 11.75").

Other notable performances included:
Emily Martinez in the 100 meters and 200 meters (13.04 and 27.06, personal best),
Kiara Cox in the 200 meters (25.69, personal best),
Mohamed Megeno in the 100 meters and 200 meters (11.19 and 22.86, personal bests), and
Lauren Griego in the 1500 meters (5:33.98, personal best).

"Both teams had numerous personal best performances this weekend with a number of top-five all-time performances," said Head Track & Field Coach Jeff Kavalunas. "Everyone is really developing well and moving in a positive direction towards the LSC Championship".
The Hounds now rest and wait until they head to Hobbs, N.M. for the New Mexico Junior College Invitational on Friday, Apr. 22, and concluding on Saturday, Apr. 23.
