PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach
Josh Harden has added three new throwers to his 2023 roster with Luis Castillo, Noe Ybaben Buriaga, and Jha'Niah Johnson joining the program. Harden now brings his total recruiting class to eight new members for the track & field program.
Castillo comes to Portales from Loop, Texas after competing for Loop HS. Castillo is a 2x 1A state qualifier in the shot put and finished in 3
rd place with a throw of 49' 5.75'' (15.08m). Joining Castillo in the Men's throwing program, Ybaben Burciaga joins the program from Seminole, Texas where they played baseball, football, and competed in the throws for track & field. Finally, Johnson comes to ENMU from Big Springs, Texas, where they were an all-district and area qualifier in the discus and shot put for two consecutive years at Big Spring High School. Additionally, Johnson also was a state qualifier in powerlifting.
Eastern New Mexico Track & Field finished the 2022 Outdoor Season at the 2022 LSC Track & Field Championship in Kingsville, Texas.
Aminata Kenyawani,
Malethabo Seema, and
Kelvin Kipkemboi each earned All-Conferece honors. Kenyawani took home third in the 10,000 meters and scored points in the 5,000 meters, Seema snagged third place in the 800 meters, while Kipkemboi scored points in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
