PORTALES, N.M. – Giddy up! The 2022 college rodeo season begins Thursday night at Lewis-Cooper Arena as Eastern New Mexico hosts the College Daze Rodeo.
Before the Greyhounds' season starts, take a look at The Tie Down:
1.) Amazing Albert – Head coach
Albert Flinn is set to begin his 15
th season as head coach of the ENMU rodeo program. He is a former rodeo standout who was a member of the team from 1965 to 1968 where he participated in three NIRA Finals and aided the team to a regional title in 1965. He is a two-time graduate of Eastern with a bachelor's in agriculture business in 1968 and a master's of business administration in 1970.
2.) Marr x Marr – Junior standout,
Shacie Marr looks to continue her excellent runs from a year ago and will do so with familiar company on her side. Her sister,
Shaeden Marr, joins the program and will be competing in breakaway and goat tying. Last year at the College Daze, Shacie took third all around among female competitors.
3.) Tie Down Trent – Trent Wood will be one of the top returners on the male side for the Hounds. Last season at the College Daze rodeo, he took fourth in the tie down portion of the festivities. The sophomore out of Portales is expected to make a big contribution to the program in his second season.
4.) Back Again – The College Daze Rodeo kicks off at 7 p.m. each night. From September 15-17, fans can expect the best collegiate competition in the southwest region alongside some other planned events. Friday night after the rounds, Will Banister will perform for the crowd. Tickets to the event are $10 for those 12 years or older and free for ENMU students. The last night of the rodeo will feature the top-10 competitors in each event.
5.) Local Talent – This year's team features eleven Hounds from the state of New Mexico.
