PORTALES, N.M. – Classes are back in session and Eastern New Mexico men's basketball is set to take the home floor for the first time since Jan. 1.
The Hounds are in action Thursday night against Texas A&M International and Saturday evening versus Texas A&M-Kingsville. Before you head to Greyhound Arena for a pair of great LSC battles, please take a look at the Starting Five:
1.) Chin Up, Look Forward: ENMU fell twice last week.
Greg Johnson scored a team-high 15 points in an 89-65 loss to Lubbock Christian and six different players scored in double figures in a high-scoring 108-97 loss to West Texas A&M. The last tie six players did so for the Greyhounds came on Jan. 30, 2020 against the University of Texas Permian Basin.
2.) Shattering Records: Errol White is quickly becoming one of the top rebounders in ENMU history. Through 16 games he has two individual game rebounding performances in the top-seven in single game history. His most recent game with 18 against West Texas A&M is tied for second most in a match. The highest mark is 20 rebounds set by Curtis Wilkinson in 2012.
3.) Easy like Ealy: Jahcoree Ealy has stepped up big time offensively as he has scored in double figures in seven of the last eight games. He had a career-high 24 points against West Texas A&M and tied his mark for most field goals made with seven on the evening. The Conway, Arkansas native is connecting on 54.5% of his shots and has hit shots from behind the arc in back-to-back games.
4.) Promotions Galore: ENMU Athletics will be hosting Student T-Shirt Night on Thursday and Cowboy Day Saturday afternoon. Fans coming to the game against Texas A&M-Kingsville will get in for free when they don their cowboy hat. The team is undefeated at Greyhound Arena in 2022-23.
5.) Postseason Implications: Both Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville are ranked high among the east division of the Lone Star Conference. The Dustdevils are 4-6 in league play and the Javelinas sit at 7-3 halfway through LSC action. TAMUK is on an eight-game winning streak, including six of those against Lone Star teams. TAMIU comes into Portales after going 2-0 last week with wins over UT Tyler and DBU.
