Eight Lane Preview: UNM Team Open

Greyhounds back in action in Albuquerque Friday and Saturday

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico is headed back to the Duke City for a two-day meet hosted by the University of New Mexico.

Before the Greyhounds get the party started Friday evening, please take a look at the Eight Lane Preview:

1.) Epic Evans: After springing 10.50m (34' 5.5") in the triple jump, Ashlynn Evans found herself with the fifth best mark in program history in the indoor event. She is just 1.10m away from reaching the top spot set last season at the UNM Team Open by Arianna Hayde. Perhaps the 2023 UNM Team Open will see a new mark set at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

2.) Smith's Shot: Over the opening two weekends of action, Tamia Smith holds the top two marks in program history in shot put. She threw 13.38m (43' 10.75") at the Friday Night Kick Axe Open hosted by Northern Arizona University and had a top throw of 13.33m (43' 9") at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico last week. Four of the top five marks overall belong to Smith in the record books.

3.) Looking for More: Paige Graham cleared 2.80m (9' 2.25") in the pole vault last week. During the 2022 UNM Team Open she went for 3.08m (10' 1.25") and tying that number would give her a second performance on the all-time list in the indoor competition.

4.) Oh So Close: Freshman Mahault Lebrun is close to finishing the 400m race in less than a minute. At the Friday Night Kick Axe Open she posted a personal best 1:01.55 and had a similar time at last week's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational with a 1:01.77.

5.) Timothy's On Top: In his first race for ENMU, Timothy Frederick made school history as he ran the quickest 400m with a 48.73 seconds time. He also took first place among all of the unseeded runners in the event, which included competitors from UTSA, Lubbock Christian, Grand Canyon, UCLA, and Adams State among others.

6.) Nice Noe: Freshman Noe Ybaben posted a 12.57m (41' 3") throw in the shot put on his second attempt at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational. He took 23rd in the event among 34 competitors and 10th out of 15 from DII institutions.

7.) Schedule's Set: This weekend, the Greyhounds will compete in their first meet of the season with multiple days of competition. On Friday, fans can expect to see ENMU compete in the pole vault, long jump, weight throw, 600m, unseeded 200m, and unseeded 400m. Saturday will showcase the shot put, triple jump, 60m, 1 mile, 400m, 800m, and the 4x400 relay.

8.) New Race: Four men and three women will be competing in the 600m race for ENMU. All seven runners will be competing in the event for the first time competitively. Those slated for the race include Lethabo Seema, Lauren Griego, Kaylyn De La Rosa, Devis Cheruiyot, Ethan Woodrome, Ricky Diaz, and Luis Holguin.
