Eighteen PR's set at UNM Team Open

Track and field sets high marks in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's and women's indoor track and field competed at the 2023 UNM Team Open Friday and Saturday. Eighteen personal records were set by fifteen ENMU athletes at the event.

"This week's meet for our squad brought some solid performances for a few of our athletes," said head coach Joshua Harden after the meet. "Each week we are gaining experience and we are learning and improving. We have a good gauge on our fitness and what the next steps are for our student-athletes."

Freshman Noe Ybaben secured a personal best in the weight throw as he hit 12.68m (41' 7.25") just four-hundredths of a meter away from setting the school record in the event. He also was just shy of a 13-meter throw in the shot put Saturday evening as he had a top mark of 12.99m (42' 7.5").

Ashlynn Evans competed in three different events over the competition. In the triple jump she outleapt her previous top mark set last week. The freshman finished the event with a personal record of 10.52m (34' 6.25"). Evans also set her fastest time in the 60m race with a sprint of 8.02 seconds. Her long jump on Friday evening went for 4.68m (15' 4.25").

Albuquerque native Lauren Griego also set two personal bests over her two races. In the 600m, she clocked in at 1:56.69 to take 16th place in the event. Griego finished Saturday's 800m race with a five-second personal record performance of 2:42.95.

Mid-distance runners Lethabo Seema and Kaylyn De La Rosa continued to stay toe-to-toe in both the 600m and 800m. Seema took the advantage by 1.62 seconds in the 600m race and De La Rosa used a last effort push in the 800m to finish .68 seconds ahead of her teammate.

Mahault Lebrun and Kiara Cox ran in the 200m and finished close together. Lebrun ended the sprint in 26.80 seconds at 32nd while Cox finished just behind with a 26.98 seconds time in 33rd.

Timothy Frederick crossed the 200m race in 21.48 seconds to take 11th in the event among 23 runners. His time in second all-time in school history.

"Tim has high expectations for himself and he's showing himself to be a top sprinter," said Harden. "Not just in the conference, but someone who will be battling for a spot at the national meet."
