Pitch Preview - MSOC: Lubbock Christian and St. Edward's

Greyhounds travel to Lubbock to face LCU, then return home to play St. Edward's

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Men's Soccer look to keep hold of their momentum as Lone Star Conference play continues. First, ENMU will travel to Lubbock Christian on Wednesday, Oct. 11, beginning at 6 p.m. (MST). Then, the Greyhounds return home to play St. Edward's under the Saturday night lights, Oct. 14, with kickoff slated for 2 p.m.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • Eastern New Mexico come into the week with a 3-5-2 record, with a 1-1-0 conference record. Recently, the Greyhounds took down #16 St. Mary's 4-2 this past Saturday, before that ENMU began conference play with a 3-0 defeat against West Texas A&M.
  • Overall, the Greyhounds have scored 15 times, averaging 11.3 shots per game, with 5.50 shots on goal sitting 4th in the LSC. Defensively, Eastern have conceded 19 goals in ten matches with 34 saves this season. As a team, the Greyhounds are 3rd in the conference for total saves and saves per game (3.40 saves per game).
  • Nick Huenig was recently named LSC Offensive Player of the Week and is tied with a team high three goals. Ignacio Lopez and Giani Mascarel have also hit three goals this season. Lopez leads the group in shots (19) and assists (2) this season. Paul Waschkau has finished the Greyhounds last two games in goal, with three keepers seeing action this season. The sophomore has 19 saves this season and is making 3.17 saves per game (3rd in LSC).

SCOUTING THE CHAPARRALS

  • Lubbock Christian enter Wednesday's clash with a 4-2-4 record, along with a 0-1-1 conference standing. During the first week of conference play, LCU forced a 2-2 draw with St. Mary's, while falling 5-0 against West Texas A&M.
  • The Chap's defense has produced a league leading 47 saves and 4.70 saves per game. LCU's three shutouts are 4th best in the LSC. In terms of scoring, Lubbock Christian has 17 goals on the campaign averaging 11.5 shots per contest. LCU also has 11 assists this season.
  • Pablo Galietero Diez has had a great start to the season with four goals and two assists for a team high 10 points. Junior forward Saimon Gjeci also has four goals this season, while Enzo Jacques' four assists leads the program. Tom Miles has been one of the top keepers in the LSC to start the season, recording the most saves per game (4.89) in the LSC with a .721 save percentage (5th best in LSC).

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS

  • St. Edward's are playing their first season in the LSC since 2019, with the program being reestablished in the fall of 2022. So far, the Hilltoppers have a 0-6-3 record with a 0-1-1 figure in LSC play.
  • SEU have struggled in front of goal so far, with just eight goals in their first nine games of the year. The Hilltoppers add three assists overall to 9.6 shots per game with a shots on goal percentage of 0.488. Defensively, St. Edward's are in the top-five for saves (29) and saves per game (3.22), conceding 22 goals overall.
  • Carlos Huato and Jethro Vourjolo both have a pair of goals this season, with Hunter Merritt leading the team in assists with two. Todd Fuller leads the team in minutes played (744) by an outfield player with Irvan Abarca just behind with 702 minutes. In goal Kellen Gullion has started seven of the nine games, but Kaleo Francis has played the last 225:00 minutes (two and a half games) of the Hilltoppers games making eight saves in that time and just five goals allowed.
