PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico is ready for a matchup against Northern New Mexico December 14. Tip is set for 6 p.m. at Clovis High School. Before the Greyhounds battle with the Eagles, please take a look at the Starting Five:
1.) WWWWinning Matters: Eastern New Mexico is on a four-game winning streak after beating UT Tyler and No. 7 DBU on the road. A 67-66 result over UT Tyler saw the Greyhounds earn a school record ten blocks. The 104-94 win over the ranked conference foe, showcased two of the better programs in the league. Eastern's
Jahcoree Ealy scored a career-best 42 points and helped the team open opportunities for offense in all facets.
2.) National Player of the Week: After combining for 73 points,
Jahcoree Ealy received D2CCA player of the week. The honor is the first for any student-athlete at a Lone Star Conference institution. Ealy helped ENMU improve to 4-0 in conference action. Only four teams (ENMU, LCU, WT, and Angelo State) are undefeated in LSC games. The Arkansas native is sixth in the nation averaging 24.9 points per game.
3.) Eagles Provide Scare: Northern New Mexico will provide a unique matchup for Eastern New Mexico. The Eagles lost to New Mexico State Tuesday night, 76-71. NNMC led the matchup by as much as seven in the second half, but could not take the win over the DI foe. Emannuel Taban provides a tough matchup for Eastern as he scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds versus NMSU. Malek Malual is another player Northern New Mexico thinks highly of as he connected for 17 points in Tuesday's loss. NNMC outrebounded NMSU, 35-26. If the Eagles wanted to beat the Hounds, they must focus on rebounding and finding clean shot opportunities offensively.
4.) Free Admission: The game will be played at Clovis High School. In the nearly 100 years of program history, ENMU has played in ten games in the city of Clovis. Last year, they beat Navajo Tech. Admission is free for fans and attendees can leave the game as a winner. There will be pictures with Santa provided plus a toy giveaway during each media timeout. Junior Hodnett holds the fifth best three-point shooting percentage in the conference at 58.8%.
Lyron Bennett is the top passer posting 37 total assists for the Hounds. Bennett also reached a key career milestone Thursday versus UT Tyler. The graduate student scored his 1000th NCAA point.
