PORTALES, N.M. – The indoor track and field season begins this week, but before Eastern New Mexico heads to its first meet, check out the 2023-24 indoor slate of events.
The Greyhounds will make full preparation for the 2024 indoor track and field championships as they are hosted in Pittsburg, Kansas March 8-9. In order to prepare, ENMU will head to Pittsburg twice before the national meet.
The first meet will see the Hounds in Pittsburg for the Boo Rogers/Crimson and Gold Invitational December 9.
Afterwards, ENMU will take the next month off from competition as the winter break comes ahead.
Eastern resumes action January 12 at the Friday Night Axe 'Em Open in Flagstaff, Arizona. The team began the 2022-23 season there and will be back for another year.
The team's final trip to Pittsburg will take place January 19 for the Rumble in the Jungle.
Two straight trips to the Duke City will follow for ENMU. The first is slated at the Albuquerque Convention Center January 26 for the New Mexico Team Open and February 2 will follow with the New Mexico Collegiate Classic.
The last regular season meet will take the Hounds back to the Sunflower State. Eastern will compete at the Ichabod Invitational in Topeka, Kansas February 10.
This year, the Lone Star Conference championship is hosted in Norman, Oklahoma at the University of Oklahoma. The top student-athletes in the LSC will meet February 23-24.
Top returners for Eastern New Mexico includes 2022 conference champion
Tamia Smith and two-time nationals qualifier
Timothy Frederick. The squad also introduces nearly 30 new members combined between the men's and women's programs.
