PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico track and field is set for the 2023-24 season as they travel to Norman, Oklahoma for the JD Martin Indoor Invitational. Before the Greyhounds compete, please take a look at the 4x4 Preview:
1x4 – Expectations High: Eastern brings back several key returners to this year's squad.
Tamia Smith is coming off a win at the 2023 Lone Star Conference indoor championships. Smith comes into the meet with a 13.71m mark.
Timothy Frederick had a notable indoor campaign in his first year as a Greyhound. Now, he is a second-year runner looking to build off his second team all-american honor. He goes into Norman with a 47.05s time in the 400m.
2x4 –
New Faces: The women's squad introduces eleven new student-athletes and fifteen for the men's side. Eight of those women and four of the men will compete this weekend for ENMU. The group includes student-athletes from New Mexico, Texas, Florida, Jamaica, Grenada and Ghana. Opening the 2023-24 campaign in December allows Eastern to see marks and continue to prepare for the conference meet in just over three months.
3x4 – Eyes Forward: One of the key races to look out for Saturday afternoon is the 60m for the women. Five Hounds are expected to run in the 41-runner field. Newcomer, Grizell Scarlett holds the best mark among ENMU student-athletes and is the second top time among the competition. Scarlett also has the opportunity to compete in the 4x400m, but an official decision will be made on the day of the race. Eastern is expected to have two different groups in the 4x400m.
4x4 – Conference Preview: This season, the Lone Star Conference indoor track and field championships will be hosted at the University of Oklahoma. This meet will prove to be a good opportunity for student-athletes to see the competition site before coming back to Norman in three months for the meet. Fellow LSC member, Oklahoma Christian will be part of the field to compete. Other notable schools at the event include the University of Oklahoma, Southern Nazarene, Abilene Christian, and Central Oklahoma.
