PORTALES, N.M. – Indoor track and field will finish out the regular season at Texas Tech for the Jarvis Scott Open Friday and Saturday. Before the team competes, please take a look at the Eight Lane Preview:
1.) On The Run: Luis Holguin continues to improve in each meet this season. The sophomore set a personal best time in the 800m with a 2:02.31 mark at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic last week. He has set top results in all three events he has run in 2023 for the Hounds.
2.) New Event: Devis Cheruiyot ran the 400m for the first time in his career. He has run the 4x400 multiple times, but the senior's 50.84 seconds race serves as his first time competing in the singular event.
3.) Provisional Mark: Timothy Frederick continues to impress as the sprinter ran a 21.45 second 200m. Through his first three races as a Greyhound he owns three different top-two results in three different events for ENMU. He is on the verge to getting to nationals and looks to solidify his chances in the coming weeks.
4.) Blazing Fast: The 60m race is a staple to indoor track and field meets as the top sprinters can reach marks near 6.7 seconds consistently. Frederick is not far behind as he completed the sprint last week in Albuquerque in 6.86 seconds setting a personal top time. His teammates
Alex Williams (7.21) and
John Magee (7.34) also competed in the event.
5.) Top Time: Ashlynn Evans ran the 60m in eight seconds flat as she set a new personal best time. The Greyhound speedster also finished the triple jump with a 9.80m (34' 6.25") result. Her current best mark was set at the UNM Team Open.
6.) Setting Records: Mahault Lebrun continues to excel early in the 2023 season. She ran a solid 1:00.01 time good enough to take 23rd among 41 runners. She was joined by
Meghan Rodriguez who finished with a top time by 0.0 seconds.
7.) Pacing Forward: Lethabo Seema posted a 21st place finish on her way to running a 2:21.77 in the 800m. She was just over three seconds away from reaching a personal top time.
8.) In The Know: Fans can watch the race at home on ESPN+. The festivities will begin around 3 p.m. CT and continue late into the night on Friday. Saturday will be the final day of competition before ENMU gets ready for the LSC indoor track and field championships.
