PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico track and field is headed to Albuquerque for the final time in the indoor season. The NM Collegiate Classic will feature teams from all over the country and the Greyhounds have 32 entries over the two-day event.
Before the Hounds depart to the Duke City, please take a look at the Eight Lane Preview:
1.) "PR"oud Moments – Last week at the UNM Team Open, 18 different races, throws, or jumps earned a personal best from a Greyhound athlete. One of the highlight marks came from
Tatiana Hall who threw the weight 12.37m. The performance was nearly one whole meter past her previous top mark.
2.) Fast Frederick – After running the 13th fastest mark among DII runners in 2023 in the 200m last week,
Timothy Frederick is set to continue setting record marks as he competes in the 60m, 200m, and 4x400m in Albuquerque. The first-year Greyhound has made an immediate splash as he holds the top mark in school history in the 400m and the second-best mark in the 200m.
3.) Throws Squad – Last week
Tamia Smith posted good numbers in the shot put (12.97m) and the weight throw (13.68m). Her teammate
Kennedy Ulmer nearly broke her best mark with an 11.65m mark.
Jha'Niah Johnson had her best event in her first season with ENMU with a 10.64m toss in the weight throw.
Noe Ybaben earned PR's in the weight throw (12.68m) and the shot put (12.99m) during the UNM Team Open.
4.) Just Jumpin' –
Ashlynn Evans held good performances in all three events she competed in last Friday and Saturday. Her 4.68m long jump an 10.52m triple jump showcased continued improvement as she continues to adjust to collegiate level track and field. She also posted a quick 8.02 seconds run in the 60m dash.
5.) Back Again –
Paige Graham did not compete last week, but is set to be at this weekend's meet to compete in the pole vault. The last time she competed at UNM, she cleared the 2.8m (9' 2.25") mark.
6.) More Mahault – The freshman hurdles specialist
Mahault Lebrun will compete in the 400m and 4x400m races this week. Her best time in the 400m came at the Friday Night Kick Axe Open hosted by Northern Arizona. Last week she posted a 26.80 seconds time in the 200m. Her time in that event is the fastest among the sprinters group this season.
