ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's and women's track and field posted solid performances at the NM Collegiate Classic this weekend.
The squad was highlighted by the best mark from a Hound this season in the 60m.
Timothy Frederick ran the race in 6.86 seconds and took second among 16 DII competitors in the event. This is his third top-two mark in three different events in school history. He also ran 21.45 seconds in the 200m, which gives him the second and third best marks in school history.
Devis Cheruiyot competed in the 400m for the first time in his career and clocked in a speedy 50.84 seconds race. His time was the 10th fastest among 18 DII competitors. He also finished the 800m in 1:58.54 good enough for second against eight DII runners.
Both throwers improved on each of their three throws in the shot put.
Noe Ybaben had a best mark of 12.71m (41' 8.5") and Jessie Woodruff had a final throw of 8.56m (28' 1"). Ybaben's toss in the weight throw went 12.20m (40'0.5")
Ashlynn Evans led the way for the women's sprints as she clocked in the 60m race in eight seconds flat. The race put her sixth out of eleven runners at the DII level.
Mahault Lebrun posted a personal best time of 1:00.01 in the 400m good for sixth out of 13 DII runners.
"I think our 800-meter group did well," said head coach
Joshua Harden after the meet. "Lee (Seema) is coming in form lately and I am pleased with that."
That 800m group on the women's side consisted of
Lethabo Seema (2:21.77),
Kaylyn De La Rosa (2:28.04), and
Lauren Griego (2:40.53).
In the women's shot put
Tamia Smith hit a mark of 12.23m (40' 1.5") and
Kennedy Ulmer went for 11.45m (37' 6.75"). Smith was just shy of breaking her personal best in the weight throw with a 13.26m (43' 6") mark in her final attempt.
Tatiana Hall also had a solid showing with a 12.90m (42' 4" toss).
"We are still showing some good signs of progression," said Harden. "I am looking forward to seeing performances from the whole team in Lubbock next week."
Next up, the Hounds head to Lubbock, Texas for the Jarvis Scott Open set for Friday.
