CANYON, Texas – Three Greyhounds broke school records at the WT Spring Break Open hosted by West Texas A&M Saturday afternoon.
In her first collegiate outdoor meet,
Mahault Lebrun cruised past the field on her way to breaking a school record. She finished the 400-meter hurdles in 1:04.10.
Coming off an All-American indoor season,
Timothy Frederick is now the fastest Hound in the 400 meters as he finished the race in 47.84 seconds.
Tamia Smith continues to make her mark at ENMU as she now holds "at the very least" the top six throws in school history in the shot put. She beat her previous top throw with a 13.32m effort to take second place in the competition.
Kennedy Ulmer (11.52m) and
Elise Toya (7.67m) joined Smith in the shot put. Ulmer took eighth in the discus with a 36.91m toss and her teammate
Jha'Niah Johnson was close behind in ninth place with a 36.37m result. In total, 23 student-athletes competed in the event.
Smith finished in eighth in the hammer throw after her first attempt went 42.01m.
Tatiana Hall added a 33.28m mark to take nineteenth in the competition.
In the men's shot put,
Noe Ybaben threw 13.61m and Malachi Torres had an 8.94m toss in his first event as a member of the track and field squad.
Alex Williams also showcased for ENMU in the event as he took second among the field after a 60.59m toss in the javelin. His throw is fourth in school history and the third best since the weight of the javelin changed in the mid-80's. He holds the seventh best mark among DII throwers after tonight.
Jesse Woodruff earned a seventeenth-place mark with a 24.09m result in the discus.
Ashlynn Evans held a third-place finish after a triple jump of 11.0m, which is the fourth best mark in school history. Evans also competed in the long jump where she took thirteenth at 5.13m and her teammate
Kiara Cox took seventeenth with a 4.70 jump to begin the outdoor season.
Two ENMU student-athletes competed in the pole vault as
Paige Graham was unable to clear the bar over her allotted attempts Saturday.
Luis Holguin cleared 3.80 meters to finish in sixth-place.
Kaylyn De La Rosa timed the 800m in 2:25.36 and
Lauren Griego crossed the line in 2:37.00. On the men's side,
Devis Cheruiyot took third with a 1:57.10 finish and Aiden Kepfer got a tenth-place nod with a final time of 2:14.74.
The 400m saw
Meghan Rodriguez (1:03.42) and
Savannah Romero (1:05.09) compete for Eastern.
Frederick was joined by
John Magee (53.83) and
Ethan Woodrome (58.20) in the 400m race.
Lastly, in the 200m race the Greyhounds were represented by
Jaliyah Denny (27.10) and
Malia Sanchez (28.86).
"Today was a solid day for our team. We had several student-athletes open up their outdoor seasons close to or with their lifetime best," said head coach
Joshua Harden after the meet. "Even though the weather was not ideal we came out and competed. Having several athletes able to capture a few school records and a provisional qualifier, we as a staff are extremely excited about the direction our team is headed."
Next week the Greyhounds will split competitions and head to two different sites in the region. A handful of student-athletes will head to the Willie Williams Classic hosted by the University of Arizona and the Masked Rider Open held at Texas Tech University. Both events are slated for March 24 and March 25.
