SB Four Bases: Lubbock Christian

ENMU softball plays a midweek series against the Chaparrals Tuesday and Wednesday

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico softball is coming off its first ever series win over Texas A&M International and heads to face Lubbock Christian Tuesday and Wednesday for three games against the Chaps. Before the team plays LCU, please take a look at the "Four Bases" preview:

First Base – Prime Pitching: All three starters for ENMU threw complete games and held the Dustdevils to three or less runs in each contest. Brook Leger picked up her ninth win after throwing 149 pitches in 9.0 innings of work. She struckout seven batters and allowed ten hits and three runs. In a tight game two, Delia Smith went all seven innings and TAMIU plated two unearned runs. Smith threw 64 pitches and allowed just three hits all day with four strikeouts. In the final game of the series, Emma Southerland let up a three-run homer in the first inning Saturday, but came back with a nearly flawless outing afterwards as she let up just one additional hit in the seventh leading the team to a 5-3 comeback victory.

Second Base – Among the League: Eastern New Mexico ranks at the top of the league with 98 walks. The program is second in the LSC in the following categories: doubles (43), hit by pitch (15), hits (176), on base percentage (.418), runs (127), sacrifice bunts (22), and triples (5). The Greyhounds are scoring 6.05 points per game - good for third in the league. After hitting three homers last weekend, the Hounds are fifth among conference foes with 14 total.

Third Base – Looking for the First: Lubbock Christian holds a dominant 39-0 advantage against the Greyhounds in the overall series. A victory would give the Hounds its first win over LCU. The Chaps come into the matchup leading the Lone Star Conference in batting average (.366), doubles (48), hits (185), on base percentage (.445), shutouts (7), runs (136), and WHIP (0.87). One of the team's top players is Kasey Flores who has hit a conference leading eight homers, 28 RBI's, and carries a 1.036 slugging percentage.

Home – Standings Implications: Coming into the series, both the Greyhounds and Chaparrals carry an identical conference record at 6-6. They are in a tie for eighth in league standings along with four different teams through the first three weeks of LSC play. Last year, Lubbock Christian finished conference play with a 23-7 mark. They swept the Hounds over four matchups in Lubbock in 2022.
