PORTALES, N.M. – A new week means another meet for Eastern New Mexico track and field. This time, the team will split and compete at both the Sooner Invitational (Norman, Okla.) and Ross Black Open (Hobbs, N.M.). Before the Greyhounds hit the road, please take a look at the Eight Lane Preview:
1.) School Records: Two student-athletes bettered their school record at last week's Jo Meaker Classic hosted by West Texas A&M.
Tamia Smith threw 13.54 meters (44' 5.25") in the shot put and
Timothy Frederick ran 46.94 seconds in the 400-meter dash. Both Frederick and Smith own the indoor and outdoor records in their respective events.
2.) In The Books: Three other women had performances worthy to join the top-five all-time marks in ENMU history at the Jo Meaker Classic.
Mahault Lebrun now holds three of the five fastest marks in the 400-meter hurdles as she ran 1:06.53.
Paige Graham also has three of the top five best clearances in the pole vault as she cleared 3.30 meters for the third best all-time by a Greyhound.
Ashlynn Evans got in the outdoor record books for the first time in the long jump as she recorded a 5.50-meter (18' 0.5") result for fourth best all-time.
3.) Nationally Notable: Timothy Frederick's 400-meter time is the seventh best among NCAA DII sprinters in 2023. Frederick is coming off an indoor season that saw him become a second team All-American. Sitting at seventh puts him in a prime position to qualify for the outdoors national competition. five of the top eleven times in the nation belong to student-athletes running for LSC member institutions.
Alex Williams holds the ninth best mark in NCAA DII in the javelin after he threw 65.12m (213' 8") at the Willie Williams Classic in Arizona.
Tamia Smith's throw this week puts her in 27th among DII competitors in the shot put.
4.) More PR's: On top of the other personal best marks set by Evans and Frederick, several of their teammates also made vast improvements with personal records at the Jo Meaker Classic.
Malia Sanchez ran a 13.22 second time in the 100m dash.
Savannah Romero ran a 1:03.76 in the 400m.
Ethan Woodrome finished the 1500m race in 4:37.25.
Noe Ybaben continued to excel in the throwing events with a 13.66m mark in the shot put.
Jude Murray had a great mark in the javelin with a 45.50m result.
5.) Eastern Relays: For the first time in 2023, ENMU posted entries in relay competitions at the Jo Meaker Classic. In the women's 4x100,

Ashlynn Evans posted a 48.88 seconds time. The women's 4x400 saw Lebrun, Rodriguez,Â
Kaylyn De La Rosa, and
Savannah Romero showcase with a 4:08.85 time. For the men's 4x400,
Timothy Frederick,
Devis Cheruiyot,
John Magee, andÂ
Luis Holguin clocked in at 3:27.61.
6.) Live In Hobbs: New Mexico Junior College will stream the meet on Youtube and Vimeo this weekend. The link to Youtube can be found
here. The competition will include South Plains College, Lubbock Christian, Western Texas College, New Mexico Highlands, West Texas A&M, and Wayland Baptist.
7.) Big Time In Norman: Several schools will be competing at the meet hosted by OU. Those include Abilene Christian, Allen CC, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Central Arkansas, Central Oklahoma, Coffeyville CC, East Central, Langston, Little Rock, North Texas, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma Baptist, Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Rogers State, Science & Arts, Southern Nazarene, TCU, Texas Tech, Tulsa, and UT-Arlington.
