LUBBOCK, Texas – Day one of the 2023 Lone Star Conference outdoor track and field championships is complete and a pair of Hounds have clinching scoring results for Eastern New Mexico University.
Tamia Smith posted a major personal best throw in the hammer throw on her first attempt of the day. The junior tossed 47.90m (157' 2") to take fourth in conference and score five points.
"T (Tamia) had a great day," said head coach
Joshua Harden after day one of the outdoor championships. "She's a competitor and she's been responding in high pressure moments."
Smith will also compete in the shot put on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT.
Tatiana Hall took 14th in the hammer throw with a 37.80m (124' 0") result.
In the 200m prelims,
Timothy Frederick posted a major personal top mark. He ran the race in 21.07s and clinches a spot in Saturday's finals set for 7:15 p.m. CT. His NCAA qualifying mark puts him within the top-eight in the conference and earns points for the men's team.
The other competitor for ENMU was
Ashlynn Evans. The freshman jumps specialist finished in 13th after clearing 10.97m (36' 0") on her second attempt.
Tomorrow's action will begin at 3 p.m. CT with the discus. Both freshmen throwers,
Kennedy Ulmer and
Jha'Niah Johnson, are expected to compete. The day's festivities will conclude with the steeplechase at 8:50 p.m. CT.
