PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico cross country is set for its third meet of the 2023 season September 15. This time they will travel to Lubbock, Texas for a race hosted by Texas Tech University on the campus of Lubbock Christian University. Before the Greyhounds leave to the Lone Star State, please take a look at the Cross Country Preview:
Recapping MSU – Last week the Greyhounds competed in triple digit heat near Wichita Falls, Texas. The race featured four Lone Star Conference opponents, including DBU, MSU, and UTPB.
Maritza Alvarez had a strong finish at eighth place among a field of 42 runners. Her teammate
Kaylyn De La Rosa earned a thirteenth-place finish. Leading the way for the men was freshman
Matthew Guerra as he took seventh in the meet. Guerra was the top finisher for Eastern for a second-straight meet.
The Layout – The race will take place on the campus of Lubbock Christian University. LCU earned the bid to host the South Central regional championship and this will be a prime opportunity for teams to see the course in person before the event. West Texas A&M, Angelo State, Western New Mexico, UT Tyler, St. Edward's, and Lubbock Christian are set to be in the competition field.
In The Past – Five Greyhound runners participated in the TTU Open in 2022. Those representing the men's side once again include
Ethan Woodrome who ran a 30:29.11 a year ago and
Ricky Diaz who followed with a 33:35.44. A trio of women also ran –
Kaylyn De La Rosa (26:23.10),
Lauren Griego (25:57.20), and
Elise Toya (29:09.80).
