PITTSBURG, Kan. – For a second-straight week, a member of Eastern New Mexico men's track and field earned a provisional mark. This time, it was 2023 second team all-american
Timothy Frederick to accomplish the feat at the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational hosted by Pittsburg State University.
A provisional mark is the minimum requirement for a student-athlete to hit before being considered for a bid to the national championship. Today's meet played extra importance as the 2024 NCAA DII indoor track and field championship is hosted by Pittsburg State.
"We are showing consistency. I am excited with what the consistency is showing us," said head coach Josh Harden after the competition. "We have guys running around their PB (personal best) and competing well."
Frederick proved to be a major highlight for ENMU this afternoon as he took second place in the 200m with his 21.55s time. His current mark ranks 13th among DII runners and second among Lone Star Conference student-athletes.
The senior also led the way for Eastern in the 60m. He nearly hit a provisional mark in that event after taking fifth at 6.92s. Four other ENMU student-athletes competed in the race –
Jamoi Jackson (6.94s),
Jude Murray (7.01s),
Alexander Johnson (7.13s), and
Malachi Torres (7.31s).
Torres improved his personal best time in the 200m for the second week in-a-row. He completed the sprint in 23.26s.
The only 400m finisher for the Greyhounds was
Tre Buchanan who took 11th and clocked in at 49.69s.
Bryce Owens was the only member of the distance crew to make the trip to the Sunflower State. The first-year Hound took 17th in the 800m with a 2:05.10 result.
The throws group was represented by sophomore
Noe Ybaben Burciaga. The Texas native earned an indoor best mark in the shot put after tossing 13.47m (44-2.5) on his first attempt of the afternoon. Ybaben Burciaga took 10th in the weight throw with a 13.37m (43-10.5) toss.
ENMU will be back in action next week at the University of New Mexico. More student-athletes are expected to compete in Albuquerque for the Greyhounds.
