Amanda Fefel to be inducted into UMBC Athletics Hall of Fame

Fefel enters the UMBC Athletics Hall of Fame as the program's all-time homerun leader, playing 207 games during a four year career

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Softball Head Coach Amanda Fefel has been announced as one of the newest members of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Athletics Hall of Fame, being inducted this weekend following an outstanding career with the Retrievers.

Fefel joins four other members of the UMBC Athletics Hall of Fame class, joining Jeremy Blevins (Men's Lacrosse), Kasy Kruger Schnabel (Women's Soccer), Liam Paddock (Men's Soccer), and Carlee Cassidy Dewey (Women's Basketball). Fefel becomes the 9th softball student-athlete to join the UMBC Athletics Hall of Fame.



In her glittered playing career with UMBC, Fefel was a dual threat in both the batter's box and the pitching circle. Fefel compiled a career record of 32-17 in the circle (.653 winning percentage), while picking up eight saves, and 293 strikeouts. In the batter's box, Fefel amassed 219 hits, a .336 batting average, 43 home runs, 147 RBIs, 385 total bases, and a career slugging percentage of .590. The utility player garnered four-consecutive America East All-Conference First Team honors, four NFCA All-Region selections, two America East All-Tournament nods, an America East All-Rookie selection, and an ECAC First Team honor. During the end of their junior season, Fefel was selected as the 2009 UMBC Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year, then earned UMBC's Senior Athlete of the Year honor in 2010.

In terms of records, Fefel scattered their name through the program's record book, including being the all-time leader in home runs (43). Additionally, Fefel's career slugging percentage (.590) ranks in 5th place, while remaining in the program's top ten for total bases (385, 2nd all-time), extra base hits (77, 4th all-time), RBIs (147, 4th all-time), hits (219, 7th all-time), and games played (207, 10th all-time). On the pitcher's rubber, Fefel's eight saves is second for UMBC, sitting in the top 10 pitching records for winning percentage (.653, 5th all-time), strikeouts (294, 6th all-time), appearances (86, 9th all-time), and wins (32, 9th all-time).

Fefel's career performances go beyond UMBC, remaining in the top-15 in several categories in the America East Conference all-time charts. Fefel's 43 career home runs are 4th all-time, falling three short of record holder Kristen Brust (Stony Brook, '02-'05). Additionally, Fefel's 219 hits is 15th in America East records, and 147 RBIs stands 10th all-time.

With the Greyhounds, Fefel begins their fourth season as the head coach of the Greyhounds softball program. In 2023 and 2024, Fefel guided the program to the Lone Star Conference Tournament for just the 3rd and 4th time in the program's history. Each trip resulted in an opening round victory, as the Greyhounds bested #7 seed St. Mary's (1-0) in 2023, while beating #7 seed Texas Woman's (5-2) in 2024. Fefel has led the Greyhounds to 14 LSC all-conference honors, two LSC all-academic nods, two NFCA all-region accolades, and 25 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Honors.

The 24th annual induction will be part of UMBC's Homecoming 2024, with the ceremony taking place on Friday, Oct. 25, at UMBC's University Center Ballroom.
