PORTALES, N.M. –
Sia Poyer will not continue coaching Eastern New Mexico volleyball due to health issues.
Â
"Our primary concern is the health of coach Poyer. We appreciate Sia's commitment to ENMU Athletics and the volleyball program," said director of athletics Kevin Fite. "He continues to be a valuable resource to this institution; however, we agree with Sia that he needs to put his health and the interest of his family first. We will continue to explore ways for coach Poyer to contribute to this athletics department in the future. He is a tremendous asset and a highly respected family member of ENMU."
Â
Poyer spent 14 seasons as an assistant coach for Eastern New Mexico University before being named the head coach at Valdosta State. With VSU, he helped the program go 128-138 over eight seasons.
Â
He came back to Portales in 2013 and has been the head coach of the volleyball program since. Poyer is the third winningest coach in ENMU volleyball history totaling 110 victories at the helm.
Â
Twenty-one student-athletes were named all-Lone Star Conference during his head coaching tenure. Poyer took the program to seven Lone Star Conference postseason tournament berths over the last 11 years.
Â
Natalia Burdulis will be the interim head coach for the rest of the 2024 season.
Â
"I have complete confidence in Natalia's ability to lead the team through the rest of the season and this transition," said Fite. "I believe this is a great opportunity for her to demonstrate her coaching ability and leadership."
Â
After the 2024 season concludes, the department will begin searching for the next head coach of Greyhound volleyball.
