PORTALES, N.M. – Randi Crandall and
Sophia Valdez of Eastern New Mexico Volleyball have both been named to the Academic All-District® from the College Sports Communicators (CSC), on Tuesday afternoon. Both Crandall and Valdez earn the honor for the first time in their career.
Crandall garners their first earn from CSC and as a Greyhounds, holding a career 3.68 GPA earning a second bachelors in Biology. The Portales, N.M. native previously earned NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete and Barnes and Noble College Volleyball Scholar Athlete Team at Blue Mountain College. This season with the Greyhounds, Crandall played in every set (96) with 27 matches played. The middle blocker posted 130 kills, 15 service aces, along with a team best 58.0 total blocks (16 solo, 42 assists).
Valdez earns their first academic honor, maintaining a 3.89 career GPA working towards a degree in Biology. The Roswell, N.M. product finished with 2.87 k/s from the middle, finishing with 236 kills in the season. At the net, Valdez finished with 54.0 total blocks (0.56 b/s). Valdez excelled as the Greyhounds switched to a 5-1 offense late in the season, holding a team high 3.10 k/s, 0.69 b/s, and 3.79 pts/s over the final eight matches.
In order to be considered for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must have played 90% of the team's games or start in 66.6% of the team's games with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
