ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The race to qualify for nationals tightened for
Timothy Frederick as he posted a strong result at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque.
The 2023 all-american ran the 200m vaulted track in 21.21s, which adjusts to 21.28s for altitude. This means that Frederick is now tied-14th with four other sprinters. If two more runners post better times over the next two weeks, the ENMU student-athlete may be on the outside looking in for a spot to race at the championships in Pittsburg, Kansas.
His teammate
Malachi Torres also did well in the 200m as he recorded his fastest time of 2024 at 22.77s.
The other short sprint this weekend came in the 60m as
Alex Williams crossed in 7.09s and Torres completed the race in 7.27s.
The other two running events for ENMU this weekend included the 400m and 800m.
Tre Buchanan (49.32s) and
Luis Holguin (53.37s) competed in the 400m and
Emmanuel Hernandez (2:16.17) and
Ethan Woodrome (2:24.96) appeared in the 800m.
Another nationals hopeful,
Hemon Joseph, finished with a 4.75m (15-7) leap in the long jump.
The throws group was represented by two Hounds this weekend.
Kooper Ellis tossed the weight throw 10.45m (34-3) and
Noe Ybaben Burciaga put a 13.26m (43-6) result in the shot put.
The next expected competition for Eastern New Mexico is the Lone Star Conference indoor track and field championship hosted at the University of Oklahoma in two weeks.
