PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Softball begin Lone Star Conference play on this weekend, taking on Texas A&M-International. The three-game series begins on Saturday, Feb. 17, featuring a doubleheader scheduled for 11:15 a.m. (MST) / 12:15 p.m. (CST) and 1:45 p.m. (MST) / 2:45 p.m. (CST). The series concludes on Sunday, Feb. 18, with first pitch set for 11:15 a.m. (MST) / 12:15 p.m. (CST).

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDSÂ
The Greyhounds return to the diamond after a 3-0 weekend at the WT Invitational, beating UCCS (9-2), Fort Lewis (3-2), and CSU-Pueblo (10-2, 5 Inn.). Overall, Eastern concluded non-conference play with a 7-1 record as they begin LSC action.
ENMU is one of the top offensive teams in the conference after the opening two weekends, scoring 77 runs (2
nd in LSC), bringing in 66 RBI's (2
nd in LSC), and a .369 batting average (3
rd in LSC). Additionally, the Greyhounds have 81 hits with 34 extra base hits, while being third in the conference with 19 stolen bases. Eastern New Mexico's pitching staff has a 3.21 ERA, recording 32 K's with 25 runs allowed.
After the opening two weeks of the season,
Taighen Whitzel is one of the top hitter standing in the top-3 in the LSC for hits (16), batting average (.667), on-base percentage (.714), and RBIs (14).
Alondra Vasquez also has had a great start at the dish, poking 13 RBIs and 14 hits for the Greyhounds.
Aylene Lucero leads the LSC in stolen bases with seven, while ranking third for runs scored (13). Additionally,
Samantha Gutierrez,
Valeria Contreras, and
Judith Osuna all have a batting average over .300 to start the season.
Jordan Rivera and
Emma Southerland each have a 3-0 record for the Greyhounds to start the season, with Riveria hurling a team low 2.39 ERA.
SCOUTING THE DUSTDEVILS
Texas A&M International begin the season with a 3-7 overall record following the first two weekends. The Dustdevils picked up three wins during their opening weekend but have lost their last four games. All four of those losses came last weekend against Angleo State and Regis, falling to Angleo State 10-1 and 7-0, while dropping a pair of games to Regis, 6-4 and 4-3.
The Dustdevils hold a .249 batting average after their opening 10 games, supplying a .249 batting average with 61 hits and scoring 26 runs. TAMIU has eight extra base hits this season, while drawing 19 walks with 23 RBIs. In the circle, the team holds a 3.63 ERA with five complete games this season. The pitching staff has 28 strikeouts this season with an opposing batting average of .278, allowing 69 hits and 41 runs.
In the batter's box, Kennedy Griego paces the team with a .387 batting average and 12 hits. Griego and Alex Hernandez lead the team with four RBIs. Victoria Gonzalez and Katelyn Luera each have a batting average over .300, being mainstays in the Dustdevils lineup. Erika Cortez stands tall in the circle with a 2.49 ERA, while Kylie Goad leads the team with a 2-1 record and nine strikeouts. Carla Arellano leads the group in starts this season with four, posting nine strikeouts and two complete games.
