RICHARDSON, Texas — After helping Eastern New Mexico Softball finish 5-1 this past week,
Alondra Vasquez has been named Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. The senior earned their first player of the week accolade this season, and the first of their career. Vasquez becomes the first Greyhound to receive the honor during the tenure of head coach
Amanda Fefel, and the first Greyhound since Kyra Sirag won the award Mar. 3
rd, 2015.
The Santiago, Dominican Republic native helped the Greyhounds win five straight games, hitting .524 at the plate with 11 hits, 12 RBIs, and a 1.143 slugging percentage. During the Greyhounds 12-1 victory over Western New Mexico, Vasquez finished 4-4 with 3 RBI, a double, and two home runs. In the series finale versus St. Edward's, the senior tied a program record with three doubles, while recording five RBIs in Eastern's 15-5 (5 Inn.) win.
ENMU plays their next LSC series at home, taking on Lubbock Christian for a three-game series. The series opener is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m., while the teams will play a doubleheader on Wednesday, Feb. 28, with start times scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
