RICHARDSON, Texas — Eastern New Mexico Softball's
Marissa Rodriguez was tabbed as the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week after helping the team go 4-2, including an upset victory over #5 UT Tyler, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. The sophomore earned their first player of the week accolade this season, and the first of their career. Rodriguez becomes the first Greyhound to receive the honor during the tenure of head coach
Amanda Fefel, and second Greyhound to win Player of the Week honors following
Alondra Vasquez (2/26/24, Hitter of the Week). The last Greyhound to win LSC Pitcher of the Week was Alberta Medina, winning the award in 2013 (3/26).
The Buena Park, Calif. native dialed in a 3-0 record, along with a save, helping ENMU go 4-2 against opponents. The right-hander twirled a complete game shutout against UT Permian Basin to start the week, then followed with a save in game two of the series and picked up a relief victory to confirm the sweep over the Falcons. Rodriguez' biggest performance of the week came in the 3-2 win vs. #5 UT Tyler as she held the high-powered Patriots offense to four hits and two runs in a complete game performance while going 2-for-3 with a home run at the plate in ENMU's first program win against UT Tyler. Over the five games, the sophomore held opponents to a .175 batting average, while posting a 1.74 ERA.
ENMU plays their next LSC series at home, taking on Midwestern State for a three-game series. The series opening doubleheader is scheduled for Thursday, Mar. 28, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., while the teams will play the series finale on Friday, Mar. 29, beginning at 12 p.m.
