ENMU men's track and field showcases strong marks at Don Kirby Tailwind Open

Greyhounds run relays, prepares for final regular regular season meet

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – It was a quick outing for Eastern New Mexico men's track and field at the Don Kirby Tailwind Open hosted by the University of New Mexico. The four hour long meet saw 14 different Greyhounds compete in ten different events.

"They did well," remarked head coach Joshua Harden after the meet. "It's always good to see how you are doing against regional competition."

ENMU was able to go toe-to-toe with a handful of institutions from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference alongside a pair of DI institutions.

One of the key focuses for Eastern today was in the relays. Both teams were the only entries in the meet so running along was another challenge they faced.

"It's extremely difficult," said Harden when asked about running alone today in the relays. "I am happy we put out some good times."

The 4x100 team of Rosean Young, Timothy Frederick, Hemon Joseph, and Jude Murray finished in 41.48s – the fifth fastest time among Lone Star Conference teams this season.

"The team did pretty well," said Murray when asked about the competition. "We all are still performing well and will continue to exceed expectations."

Tre Buchanan, Timothy Frederick, Jamoi Jackson, and Bryce Owens closed out the competition in 3:18.16 and now hold the sixth fastest mark among conference times.

Malachi Torres represented ENMU in the 100m as he crossed the line in 11.12s to take 10th. Newcomer Bryce Owens took seventh in the 800m at 2:02.27. His teammates Ethan Woodrome (4:54.96) and Ricky Diaz (5:14.07) competed in the 1500m for ENMU.

Not only did Joseph run the 4x100, he helped Eastern in a pair of field events. He cleared 3.60m (11-9.75) in the pole vault and finished with a leap of 6.46m (21-2.5) in the long jump.

Four Hounds took part in throws events. Devin Gallegos (49.91m (163-9)) and Alex Williams (49.20m (161-5)) took first and second respectively in the javelin.

Noe Ybaben Burciaga posted a 12.55m (41-2.25) toss in the shot put and 34.34m (112-8) in the discus. His teammate Kooper Ellis also threw in the discus finishing with a 31.51m (103-4) result.

The team competes at the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock, Texas next weekend.
