PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's and women's track and field are set to compete in their final regular season meet this week in Lubbock, Texas at the Corky/Crofoot Shootout hosted by Texas Tech. Before meet day, please take a look at the 4x4 Preview:
1.) Throws Success: The throws group for ENMU women's track and field had a great outing at last week's Don Kirby Tailwind Open in Albuquerque.
Tamia Smith set her school record mark higher in the shot put at 14.30m (46-11) and now ranks in the top-30 in the nation. Sophomore
Kennedy Ulmer now sits in sixth in the Lone Star Conference after throwing 43.94m (144-2) in the discus.
2.) Relays Are In: One of the biggest opportunities for Eastern New Mexico men's track and field at the Don Kirby Tailwind Open was the chance to put together a pair of relay teams. Both the 4x100 (41.60s) and 4x400 (3:18.60) teams rank seventh among the Lone Star Conference after last week.
Timothy Frederick is the only Hound to run in both.
Rosean Young,
Hemon Joseph, and
Jude Murray are part of the short relay while
Tre Buchanan,
Jamoi Jackson, and
Bryce Owens represent the team in the other relay.
3.) Looking Ahead: The Greyhounds will have one final chance to better their marks before entering the conference meet hosted by Angelo State University. The men's program sits in a position where they will likely score points in nine different events while the women's team is expected to score in seven events. Both sides in javelin look to have multiple Hounds earn placement at the LSC outdoor championship. For the women,
Kennedy Ulmer currently sits first and
Deziree Bosquez is fifth among conference throwers. The competition is tight for the men as
Alex Williams is second,
Hemon Joseph is third, and
Devin Gallegos is ninth within the conference.
4.) TTU Outlook: Short sprints will be the races to watch out for this weekend. ENMU has five women and four men in the 100m scheduled to compete Friday night at 7:45 p.m. MT. The 200m will be run 100 minutes later with seven women and seven men expected to compete. Other events taking place Friday are the 400m, 800m, 4x100, 4x400, javelin, hammer, pole vault, and long jump. Saturday will feature a small group of events including the 1500m, shot put, discus, and triple jump.
