PORTALES, N.M. – Due to high winds expected Saturday, Eastern New Mexico track and field compete at the Jo Meaker Classic Thursday and Friday in Canyon, Texas. Before the Hounds travel to the Lone Star state, please take a look at the 4x4 Preview:

1.) Home Sweet Home: ENMU held a home meet for the first time since 2019 and several Greyhounds posted individual top marks and medalist honors. The winning events for the Hounds include the women's 4x100, men's 4x100, women's 100m, men's 100m, men's 200m, women's shot put, men's shot put, women's javelin, men's javelin, men's pole vault, women's pole vault, women's high jump, women's discus, women's hammer, and men's hammer.

2.) Double Winner: Two student-athletes won multiple events at the 2024 Greyhound Open. Texas native Tamia Smith threw 13.77m (45-2.25) in the shot put and 46.30m (151-11) in the hammer. It marks her fifth and sixth event wins as a Greyhound. She currently sits fifteenth in the nation and second in the LSC in shot put. She is sixth among conference throwers in the hammer. Rio Rancho, N.M. native Kennedy Ulmer won the discus with a 43.86m (143-11 toss) and the javelin with a 40.61m (133-3) result. Ulmer is fourth in the LSC in discus and first among conference throwers in the javelin.

3.) Thursday's Radar: The opening day of the Jo Meaker Classic will feature the hammer, javelin, high jump, long jump, 400m, and 1500m. Allysun Jones, Samantha Medina, Jha'Niah Johnson, Tamia Smith, Alexander Johnson, Jamoi Jackson, Devin Gallegos, Hemon Joseph, Alex Williams, Aeriana Langley, Noe Ybaben Burciaga, Kooper Ellis, Jodian Stewart, Helena Carboo-Klutsey, Mariana Marquez, Savannah Romero, Timothy Frederick, Tre Buchanan, Jude Murray, Bryce Owens, Ethan Woodrome, and Ricky Diaz are expected to compete.

4.) Closing Up: ENMU will split the next group with Friday events. Those include shot put, pole vault, discus, 100m, and the 200m. Representing Eastern will be Savannah Romero, Minerva Cerda Hernandez, Meghan Rodriguez, Riley Midgett, Ambrosia Francis, Malachi Torres, Rosean Young, Grizell Scarlett, Hemon Joseph, Noe Ybaben Burciaga, Kooper Ellis, Kennedy Ulmer, Jha'Niah Johnson, Samantha Medina, Allysun Jones, Luis Holguin, Tamia Smith, and Alexander Johnson. The sprints events are expected to be live streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network.
