CANYON, Texas – Eastern New Mexico men's track and field finished strong at the 2024 Jo Meaker Classic with a handful of student-athletes earning personal best marks.
"I think the meet went very well," said head coach
Joshua Harden after the meet. "We saw some solid performances and our younger group is continuing to learn."
The meet began Thursday with the team competing in four different events.
Noe Ybaben Burciaga started out the competition with a 39.37m (129-2) throw in the hammer. His teammate
Kooper Ellis was just a little behind him at 39.14m (128-5)
The 400m was an entertaining race to witness as several student-athletes earned personal records. Those with PR's are
Tre Buchanan (48.19s),
Jude Murray (50.61s), and
Bryce Owens (53.70s).
Timothy Frederick now ranks eighth in the nation in the 400m after a 47.09s result.
Alexander Johnson nearly hit a top mark at 53.07s.
Owens continued to have a fantastic week with him running in the 800m. He took eighth overall and finished in 2:02.30
The final event Thursday night saw teammates
Ethan Woodrome (4:58.22) and
Ricky Diaz (5:16.56) finish the 1500m in tenth and eleventh respectively.Â
In the 100m,
Rosean Young hit a top mark of 10.41s and it ranks in the top-20 in NCAA DII in 2024.
Malachi Torres also had an excellent outing as he ran the 100m in 11.11s.
Luis Holguin has earned a PR in pole vault three weeks in-a-row. This time he cleared 4.40m.
A couple throws events followed with Ybaben Burciaga throwing 12.88m (42-3.25) and
Hemon Joseph 11.97m (39-3.25) in the shot put.
In discus,
Hemon Joseph tossed 30.12m (98-10). As for the javelin, Joseph took second place with a 55.86m (183-3) throw. New Mexico native,
Devin Gallegos tossed a personal record at 49.83m (163-6).
ENMU will now prepare for next week's meet in Norman, Okla.
